Need Tech Help? PCPS can help!
Polk County Public Schools has established a help line to assist students and families with technical issues related to distance learning.
The help line is available at 863-614-1600 on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Students and families can call the line to receive help with general technical problems and issues related to specific applications. Before calling, please make a note of the device you are using and its operating system (if using a home computer or laptop).
The virtual call center will be staffed remotely by PCPS network managers and curriculum team members. PCPS began distributing devices and conducting distance learning last week, and staff know the process has been frustrating for many families, said Dr. Tina Barrios, PCPS’ assistant superintendent of information systems and technology.
Because of the challenges involved with distributing devices at schools countywide while beginning distance learning at the same time — all while working within staffing limitations imposed by the coronavirus — Barrios said PCPS did not initially have the means to handle the resulting volume of tech support questions and other issues.
“We wanted to streamline support so that it was consistent throughout the district,” Barrios said. “We felt like our students and families at least needed to get a live voice when they called in.”
The help line begins operating today, Wednesday, April 8. Students and families are asked to please be patient when calling, as PCPS expects that staff will initially be handling a high volume of calls.
